Post Abortion Support
Compassionate, Confidential Help
After Abortion
At House of Grace, we provide support after abortion — compassionate and confidential care for those experiencing pregnancy-loss-related grief. Support is available in person at our Duncan office and virtually for those living outside the Cowichan Valley.

Understanding
the Impact of Abortion
Each person responds to abortion differently.
Some may feel relief, while others experience emotions they did not anticipate. The impact of abortion is deeply personal and unique, influenced by each individual’s story.
At House of Grace, we recognize that abortion may be experienced as a childbearing loss, a grief issue, or a stressor. For some, it can feel like a traumatic event that temporarily overwhelms the ability to function, especially in the early days or weeks following the experience.
Support After an Abortion
f you’re struggling emotionally after an abortion, please know that you’re not alone. You may be feeling sadness, confusion, numbness, anger, or a mix of emotions that are hard to understand. Whether your abortion was days, weeks, months, or even years ago, House of Grace provides a safe place to process your feelings and begin healing.
Our After Abortion Support uses a grief-informed approach to help you explore and process what you’re feeling. Grief is not predictable. It varies in length, intensity, and expression. Your emotions are valid, and it’s important to give yourself permission to experience them fully. All of our post-abortion support services are FREE.
"Grief can be defined as a normal response to loss — the conflicting group of human emotions caused by an end to or change in a familiar pattern of behaviour.”
— John W. James & Russell Friedman, The Grief Recovery Handbook

Coping After an Abortion
Feeling overwhelmed after an abortion can be confusing — especially if you haven’t shared your experience with anyone. Many people keep their abortion private, telling no one or only their partner, which can lead to feelings of isolation and loneliness.
One of the most helpful ways to cope is to find a safe and supportive space where you can talk freely and process your thoughts and emotions.
At House of Grace, our client advocates provide a compassionate, nonjudgmental environment where you can share openly. We understand that abortion can be a sensitive and polarizing topic, and we are here to ensure you are met only with empathy, understanding, and respect.
What to Expect After an Abortion
There’s no “right” way to feel after an abortion. Some people experience relief; others may feel sadness, regret, anger, grief, loss, shame, or emotional numbness.
You might notice changes in your sleep, focus, or daily routines — or shifts in how you view yourself or your relationships.
Your feelings are unique to you. It’s important not to compare your experience to anyone else’s or to what others say you should feel.
